ESTELL SHERLIN VAUGHN, age 80 of Riceville, Tenn. was called home to be with his Lord Friday, December 18, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Tenn.
He was a native of Athens, Tenn. and was a former resident of Illinois before moving back to McMinn County, Tenn. four years ago.
He was a son of the late Virgil Ollie and Nellie Rae O'Daniel Vaughn and preceded in death by Two Sisters: Kathleen Vaughn, Cecil Vaughn, Two Brothers: Ermal Vaughn, Wetzel Vaughn, Infant Grandson: Patrick Vaughn, Brother-in-law: Walter Maye, Three sisters-in-law: Nina Vaughn, Marjory Conrad, and Sophia Vaughn.
He was retired Vice President and General Manager of I. V. Die Mold in Peoria, Illinois and was a member of Eastanalle Baptist Church, Meridian Sun Lodge 50, The American Legion Post 68, V. F. W. Post 5146, and Am. Vets. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in the Korean War having recieved the Korean Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal, China Medal and was proud to serve his God and Country.
Survivors: Wife of 48 years: Susan Marie Mertens Vaughn of Riceville, Tenn., Three sons and daughters-in-law: David Virgil and Julie Vaughn of Coralville, Ia. , Mark Daniel and Jennifer Vaughn of Annawan, Ill, and Christopher Scott and Carrie Vaughn of Washington, Ill, Daughter and Son-in-law: Karrie Lynn and Brent Glines of Layton, Utah, Four Brothers and Three Sisters-in-law: Everett and Mary Lou Vaughn of Louisville, Ky., Osmond Vaughn of Athens, Tenn., Buford and Ophelia Vaughn of Athens, Tenn., Myrl and June Vaughn of Athens, Tenn. Sister: Eloise Maye of Riceville, Tenn., Sister-in-law and Spouse: Patricia and George Wetsell of Ormond Beach, Fla. Four Grandchildren: Candice Lynn and Husband Jose Sanchez, Joseph Daniel Buck, Daniel Joseph Vaughn, and Victoria Vaughn, several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held 8:00 P.M. Monday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Mickey Basham, Rev. Oran Creasman, and Dr. Ralph Jenkins officiating.
A Masonic Service will follow at the conclusion of service.
Interment will be 2:30P. M. Tuesday in Idlewild Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will recieve friends from 6-8 Monday in the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be sons: David Vaughn, Mark Vaughn, Chris Vaughn, and Billy Belcher, nephews: Mark Vaughn, DanielVaughn.
