Ransom Alexander Womac, 76, of Niota, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a native of Meigs County and a resident of McMinn County for 53 years. He founded and ran his own business of 39 years, Womac's Excavation, with his close friend of 49 years, Curtis Crass and his son Glen. He was a member of Clearwater Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Elsie Anna Mae Walker Womac; brothers Tom and Troy Womac; and a sister, Lorene Revels.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Ruth Dennis Womac; one son and daughter-in-law, William Glen and Angie Womac of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ross Ingram of Niota; grandchildren Meredith and Richard Brazzell, Hailey and Clint Swafford, Margaret and Jason Wilcox, Harley Womac, Jennifer Day and Kelsea Ingram; great-grandchildren Briley Carson Swafford, Cadin Lewin William Brazzell, Kayley Brazzell, Dusty, Cheyenne, Hunter, and Alex Wilcox; sisters and brothers-in-law Jane and Kenneth Shelton of South Carolina and Aliene and Jim Perry of Monticello, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law Gordon Womac of Michigan, Fred and Sue Womac of Kentucky and Ernest and Cindy Womac of Michigan; sisters-in-law Chelene Womac of Lenoir City and Eva Lee Womac of Athens; special nephew Michael Wood of Niota; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Hogan officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Clearwater Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Clint Swafford, Richard Brazzell, Jason Wilcox, Josh Jackson, Ronny Womac, and Jeremy Womac.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
