     HISTORY

Carl E. Lay & Robert E. Evans on May 10, 1946 purchased the home of J.W. Low to be used as a funeral home.  This home was built on the site of the famous old Bridges Hotel, known as the Eucid Hotel.
This hotel has many historical distinctions.  It has housed many celebrities, among whom were David Crokett, Henry Clay, General Sherman & others.  This building was used as a temporary fortress in February of 1865, during the Civil War, and for a number of years the Bridges Hotel was a relay for the discared stage coach.
This property was a part of a farm owned by a man by the name of Jeffers, who in 1851 sold to James S. Bridges and on which the famous old Bridges Hotel was built & operated by him until his death.
The property was then purchased by John M. Bridges & Lydia A. Bridges in 1875.  The purchase price was $4,948.00.  The property was then sold to T.H. Graham on Jan 21, 1888, & then changed to the Eucid Hotel.
It was again sold to R.D. Parson & wife in 1898, who operated the hotel until it burned in December of 1900.  On December 7th of that same year the property was purchased by J.W. Lowe who built the present home in 1910.
In 1964 Philip Quisenberry purchaed the funeral home from Robert Evans.  James Reed Laycock came on as a partner in the organization in 1955.  It was these men who brought the establishment to prominence in the community.  In 1986 the business was purchased by Larry W. Hobbs.
