Steven Ross Powers, 51, of Athens, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

He was a native of Lincoln, Neb., and was a resident for most of his life of McMinn County. He was a member of East Athens Baptist Church, and was a former employee of Collins & Aikman Corporation. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Shirley Elizabeth Adair Prescott, on Dec. 29, 2004; and one brother-in-law, Scott Alan Prescott, on March 18, 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Marie Prescott Powers of Athens; his parents, Donald and Reba Monroe Powers of Athens; one brother, Brett Powers of Athens; his father-in-law and his wife, Dale and Carolyn Prescott of Athens; two sisters-in-law and one spouse, Debbie McSpadden of Athens, and Cathy and Kenny Higgins of Riceville; special nieces and nephews and their spouses, Mandy and Dewayne Galyon, Jennifer and David Jackson, Zane and Chandler Prescott, Katie Powers and Holly Higgins; and one great-niece and great-nephew, Meredith and Derek Galyon.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at East Athens Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
