James Alfred "Jack" Whiteside, age 89 of Riceville passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Signature Health Care of Cleveland.
A native of Calhoun, TN and resident of McMinn County most of his life, he was the son of the late James and Martha Lela Vaughn Whiteside.
He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church and retired from Bowater Paper Company. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member in The Alahambra Shrine Temple in Chattanooga, as well as the Chilhowee Shrine Club and The Meridian Lodge #50 F&M.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Tilley Whiteside (Aug. 12, 2017); two brothers, Robert (Bob) Whiteside and Clyde Whiteside; Three sisters: Blanche Holloman, Grace Carmichael, Sue Goodwin; Three sons, James Wayne Whiteside, Donald Rex Whiteside and Thomas Darryl Whiteside.
Survivors include his Two daughters and son-in-law; Renee Whiteside of Riceville and Cynthia and Clarence Dewayne Partin of Dayton; One sister, Helen Scoggins of Etowah; Two grandchildren and spouses, Laura and Austin Thayer of Jonesborough and Jennifer and Hank Falin of Pikeville; Two great-grandchildren, Amelia Kate Thayer and his future great grandchild, Elijah James Falin.
Funeral services will be 7:00 pm Friday, March 30, 2018 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev, Kevin Cheatham officiating.
The interment will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Calhoun Cemetery. The nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Friday before the service at the funeral home.
