Jimmy "Pop" Russell, age 70 of Athens, passed away, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at his residence.
A native and life-long resident of Athens, he was a son of the late John Temer and step-mother, Martha Maxine Russell and his mother Emma Lucille Griggs Johnson, and was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Donna Cutshaw Russell.
He was of the Baptist Faith and was a former employee of C&D Batteries, Davidson Textron, and was a former owner and operator of American Cinemas for 25 years.
He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam Conflict.
Survivors include his son and fiancé, Jeffrey Russell and Maureen Del Pozo of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Krista and Aaron Webb of Knoxville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Carey Wilcox of Kingston, Pat and James King of Athens, and Jane and Skip Lequire of Friendsville; four adored grandchildren, Deion Russell, Donovan Russell, Keira Webb, and Max Webb; Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Pastor Bruce Galyon officiating.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville. Active Pallbearers will be Michael Paul, Jr., Danny Lopez, Dax Beach, James King, Skip Lequire, Michael Johnson, and Noah Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Harden, Jason Jenkins, Adam Webb and Austin Webb.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
