ALAN BARRY BOHANNON, age 66 of Athens, Tenn.., passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at Athens Place in Athens, Tenn. He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County, Tenn., and a son of the late Arnold and Lucille Ovaline Watson Bohannon. He was a former employee of AMR and Valley Co-op in Decatur, Tenn., was formerly an orderly with Athens Hospital, was a Driver Engineer of Athens Fire Dept for 11 1/2 years. He retired from TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant after 19 1/2 years of service being involved as an EMT, HAZ-MAT, Medical and High Rise Rescue and Fire Service Tech and locksmith. He was former owner and operator of McMinn Chimney Sweeps and Stove Sales. He was a charter President of CMA Trinity Warriors Chapter 994 for 8 years aka Trinity Warriors 994 of the Christian Motorcyclist Association. He was called to preach in 2001 and licensed by East Athens Baptist Church and Genesis Baptist Church. He ministered and served area bike rallies with CMA Chapter 994 and partnered with Missionary Ventures and CMA. Alan rode in two countries, Nicaragua and Guatemala, to ride and deliver motorcycles to native pastors to help them reach more people for Christ several times. He made 4 trips to Honduras on medical and evangelical missions to seldom reached peoples. He also made trips to Guatemala to repair mission house for missionaries stationed there. He spent 2 weeks in Pakistan after the earthquake there thru the International Mission Board building temporary shelters and handing out food. He served as Chaplain with Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Andrew and served with The Emergency Child Care in Houston at the Astrodome after Katrina. He was a member of Genesis Baptist Church and former member of East Athens Baptist Church and Eastanelle Baptist Church..
Survivors: Wife of 47 years: Debbie Self Bohannon of Athens, Tenn., Daughters and Son-in-law: Kimberly and Steve Hazelwood of Athens, Tenn., Angela LeAnn Bohannon of Athens, Tenn., Katlyn Marie Bohannon of Athens, Tenn., Three Grandchildren: Olivia Hazelwood (Austin) Fitch, Joshua Alan Hazelwood, Cameron Bohannon, Two Great Grandchildren: Brooklyn Elizabeth Cotter and Grayson Lee Fitch, Brother and Sister-in-law: Dennis Ray and Sherry Bohannon of Casper, Wy., Brother-in-law: David and Tammy Wade Self , Mother-in-law: Mary M. Self, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Pete Mullins and Rev. Van Elkins officiating. . Active pallbearers will be Steve Hazelwood, Joshua Hazelwood, Cameron Bohannon, Austin Fitch, Tyler Arent, and David Self. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022 in the funeral home. Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 in McMinn Memory Gardens. All motorcycle riders are invited to assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM for the procession to the cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Christian Motorcycle Association. The family would like to thank Athens Place, Etowah Memory Care, and Hearth Hospice for their love and care.
