Claris Winnifred Smith

Claris D. Smith, age 95 of Athens passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022 at her residence.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida and resident of Athens since 2005, she was a daughter of the late Robert J. and Clara Ida Clanton Dorsey and was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Andrew Smith on May 9, 1974; 2 sons, Jerre M. Smith on Nov. 25, 1967 and Mark A. Smith on November 8, 2002; and a brother, Robert C. Dorsey.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens and over her lifetime she served the Lord by teaching Sunday School for more than 50 years.
She attended Calhoun Elemetary School, Hoke Smith Jr. High and Commercial Sr. High School in Atlanta, GA.  She went on to earn her Associates Degree from Massey Business College.
She was a former employee of the Kellogg Company having retired after 33 years of service.
Survivors:
1 daughter, Brenda S. Clanton of Athens;
Holly Enten, Life-long family companion of Athens;
1 daughter-in-law, Dana Smith Bokelman of Belmar, NJ;
6 grandchildren, Sean (Angel) Clanton, Reid (Lisa) Clanton, Nicholas Smith,
Taylor Smith, Meme Smith and Juan Smith;
4 great-grandchildren, Abbey Clanton, Grace (Ross) Clanton Crim, Avery Clanton and Smith Clanton.
1 great-great grandson, Maverick Crim.

The family would like to express a very special thank you to Golden Touch Life Management Services for their care of Claris and her family over the years and to a very special care giver Angie Taylor.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 30, 2022 in the chapel with Dr. Bill Henard officiating. The family will receive friends from 1- 2 PM Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
