Cora A Sweatt Jones

CORA BEASLEY SWEATT JONES,  age 83 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, in Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens. She was a native of  Winfield, Alabama, resident of McMinn County, Tenn., since 1974, a daughter of the late John Belton and Emma Keeton Beasley and preceded in death by her First Husband: Kirby Leonard Sweatt, Two Sisters, and Three Brothers. She owned and operated Cora's Day Care, former member of First Baptist Church of Athens, Tenn., Fairview Baptist Church and currently Pope Ave. Baptist Church.  Cora was chosen "Tennessee Mother of the Year" in 1996. She loved to sing and was a part of Sacred Harp Singing.
Survivors:  Husband: Richard B. Jones of Athens, Tenn., Two sons and daughters-in-law: Kirby (Donna) Sweatt of Athens, Tenn., Bill ( Kelly) Sweatt of Jamestown, North Carolina., Daughter and son-in-law: Sue (John) McCusker of Canton, Ga., Six Grandchildren: Corissa and Jonathan Sweatt, David,  Samuel and Matthew Sweatt, and John McCusker, Two Sisters: Sarah Beasley of Bessemer, Ala., Becky Briggs of Perdido Key, Fla., Two Brothers: Marlin Beasley of Blountsville, Ala. and Alvin (Bunk) Beasley of Winfield, Ala.  Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 6:00 P.M. Monday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Vick King officiating. Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Seth Holloway, Justin Beasley, Jonathan Sweatt, David Sweatt, Samuel Sweatt, Matthew Sweatt and John McCusker. The family will recieve friends from 4-6 Monday in the funeral home.
