Corbin Marshall Young

April 4, 1932 — July 26, 2024

Corbin Young, 92, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior the morning of July 26, 2024. He was a resident of Athens, TN where he resided with his wife of 67 years, Vanda J. (Niles) Young. Corbin was born in Tellico Plains, TN on April 4, 1932 to the late John and Bessie (Stewart) Young and was one of five children. Corbin joined the Air Force shortly after high school, where he would serve for four years (1955-1959) and completed a deployment to serve in the Korean War. Upon his return home, he began working at Bowater where he would retire after 37 years. Following his marriage to Vanda, they soon moved to Athens and became faithful members of North Athens Baptist Church (previously) and were currently members of East Athens Baptist Church. Corbin was an active member of the church family where he served as a deacon, greeter/usher, and taught Sunday school for many years. He was a man of faith from an early age, and his love for the Lord was graciously displayed daily as a testament of his unshakable faith.Outside of church, Corbin loved spending time with family, gardening, and sitting on his porch swing. He was always working with his hands and remained readily available to help and serve, wherever the need may be. He was truly a simple man that enjoyed Vanda’s homemade cornbread and milk, but a Man of God that was easy going, kind, considerate, and inclusive. Corbin loved his family, friends, and the Lord with his entire being! He led by example and had the most tender servant’s heart that overflowed with God’s goodness. Corbin was a gentle soul that was quick to laugh, quick to make a joke, but never quick to anger.

He is survived by his wife, Vanda, his daughter Beverley Rose (and son-in-law David Rose), his son Mark Young (and daughter-in-law Kim Young), his grandchildren: Laura Smith, Caleb Young, and Laceica Turner, his great grandson Corbin “Luke” Carver, his sister Azalee Moore, and several nieces and nephews. Corbin was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Hollis, Lowell, and Dale Young. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and chaplain of Adoration Hospice of Sweetwater for the attention and care provided over the last several weeks. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following at 1:00 P.M in the Chapel with pastor Brian Tiapp and Chaplain Adam Jones officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Deacons of East Athens Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to: www.laycock-hobbs.com/notices/Corbin-Young
