Debra Darlene Mason, 60, of Athens, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend, went to her new home in heaven Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville. A native and lifelong resident of Athens, Tennessee, in McMinn County, she was born Jan. 31, 1960, to the late Donald Gene Mason and Carolyn Sue Malone Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Waymon Houston and Jo Ann Halterman Mason and John William and Lillian Ethel Rogers Malone. Debra graduated from Cleveland State Community College and Tennessee Wesleyan College with a degree in Human Resources. She was a member of West View Baptist Church. Debra was currently employed with Tri-County Center and a former employee of Textron Automotive Company both of Athens.
Survivors include her daughter, Alexis Suzette Starr of Cary, North Carolina; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William “Hunter” Starr and Justin Andrew and his wife Anita Ellis Barnett and their children, Ty Andrew, Brooklyn Ann, Bo Aiden, and Benjamin Graeme "Ben" Barnett all of Athens; her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn Ann Mason and David "Hughie" Webb of Knoxville, her brother and sister-in-law, Timothy "Scott" and Patricia Ann Moses Mason of Athens; nephew, David Blake Andrew Webb of Knoxville, and niece, Hannah Elizabeth Mason Park, of Nashville; and beloved aunt, Brenda Malone Howard of East Peoria, Illinois.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 PM Friday, June 12, 2020 in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with presiding Bishop Kevin Wallace on 11:00 AM Saturday, June 13, 2016 at McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Graves, Phil Graves, Brian Malone, Michael Malone, David Webb and Ian Busbee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association. Those unable to attend may send condolences at www.laycock-hobbs.com Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
