Doris Lee Townson

January 2, 1949 — November 1, 2024

Athens, Tn

Doris Wicker Townson, age 75 of Niota, TN. passed away Friday, November 1, 2024. She was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, a daughter of the late Johnnie Lee and Nannie Lee Wicker, and proceeded in death by Husband: Glenn Townson, Daughter: Misty Plaster Deans, and the father of her children: Bill Plaster. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend, however her most prized title was Mamaw. Doris was a very active lifelong member of Union McMinn Baptist Church. During her membership she was the pianist for 50 years, beginning at the age of 15. She played all music by ear and was a vital part of their music program. While she taught many ages as a Sunday School teacher, she found her greatest love for teaching with the Adult Senior Ladies. She always claimed she learned more from them than they did her. She was in a teaching role for over 40 years. In Doris’s spare time, you could find her reading, studying, or taking a nap. She was an avid believer in quiet time. She and her husband Glenn were blessed to have traveled to all 50 states, trips overseas, and to other countries, and her favorite …. a trip to The Holy Land. It was her lifelong dream to walk the same ground Jesus walked and see the empty tomb. In her younger years she was active in the Pilot Club and served on many boards.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Tiffany Plaster, son-in-law Josh Deans, and her two brothers and sisters-in-law, George E. and Shirley Wicker, and Lynn and Anna Wicker, grandsons Dylan (Cara) Plaster, Cole, (Maddie) Plaster, and Camden Deans, granddaughters Madison Deans, Emily Plaster, and Brooklyn Deans, and four great granddaughters Clara Belle and Callie Plaster, Oakleigh Davis, and Ramie Plaster. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews as well.

During Doris’s sickness we have to thank Hearth Hospice, the girls at Terra Bella Assisted Living, and her special caregiver Andrea Ricker. Thank you for all you have done.

Receiving friends will be 5:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday, November 3, 2024 with the funeral following at Union McMinn Baptist Church with Rev. Gabe Brannon and Rev. Bryan Coffey officiating. Special music by Michael Wilson and Jack Ingram. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 4, 2204 in Union McMinn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dylan Plaster, Cole Plaster, Camden Deans, Howie White, Gerald Wilson, and Greg Mull.
