Dorothy Mae Belk

Dorothy Mae (Amen) Belk, 98 of Athens passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2025. 

Dorothy was born to John and Katherine Amen on February 23, 1926, at Greeley, Colorado. They moved to Prospect Valley in 1936 where she spent her formative years. She attended Prospect Valley School.

She married James Belk on October 14, 1944 at Greeley, Colorado and they remained in Greeley until James was discharged from they US Army and they then moved to the Prospect Valley area. They later lived in Keenesburg, Colorado and Greeley, Colorado until they moved to Madisonville, Tennessee in 1979. They later moved to Athens, Tennessee in 1994. They were married for 62 years. They had five children, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

Dorothy worked at the McMinn Senior Center as the Congregate meal coordinator and loved to help people and was awarded several times as the McMinn County Senior Center Volunteer of the year. She held several jobs over the years, but mostly spent her time as housewife and Mom.

Dorothy was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Englewood TN

Dorothy loved everyone she met and always had a ready smile and a wink. She truly loved people.

Dorothy was preceded in death by an infant son John, her parents, John and Katherine Amen, her older brother Harry Amen, and her husband James “Jim”. 

She is survived by her sister Betty Mitro, her brother Bill Amen, her remaining children: Leona Ruth Cole (Paul), Katherine Cora Andre, James Eugene Belk (Laura), Randolph (Randy) Lee Belk, her grandchildren, Patricia Cole, Steven Cole, Joshua Belk, Jessica Knodler, Denise Balding and Melanie Long, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Family and friends will be received at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral home of Athens Tennessee on Jan 27, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with Funeral Service following visitation, Internment on Tuesday at 2:00pm at the McMinn Memory Gardens. If you want to go in procession from funeral home should be at Laycock-Hobbs no later than 1:15pm. Everyone who wants to is invited to Zion Hill Baptist Church in Englewood after the burial for food in the Family Life Center.
