Doris Ann Scruggs age 73 of Niota, passed away, Wednesday October 20, 2021 at Sweetwater Hospital.
A native and life-long resident of McMinn County she was a daughter of the late Howard Paul and Mary Jane Moore Scruggs, and was preceded in death by her grandparents, Caggie, Sr. and Anna Bell Scruggs and Lee and Susie Moore, Aunts, Hattie Arnwine Jessie Mae Suber, Imogene and Edward Looney, Eva and Lee Winton, Elizabeth and Elroy Harris Uncles, Rev. James and Alma Moore, Ben and Ann Moore, John Henry Moore, Eugene and Ora Lee Scruggs, Allen Harris, Rev. Caggie, Jr. and Lexie Scruggs, Joseph Scruggs, Ross Scruggs, James Scruggs, Elbert Scruggs, Dewey Scruggs and Robert Wynn; a Sister, Deloris Jane Scruggs White; Mammie Sue Sneed, Charles and Lilly Moore, Darlene and Allen Harris
She was a longtime member of Lanes Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she served as a deaconess, was on the kitchen committee and also sung in the choir. She enjoyed cooking for all that came to her house and was employed for many years as a caterer. She helped raise all of the children that grew up in her community. She loved to shop and was especially fond of her handbags and her jewelry and she was very particular about making sure her nails were always done.

4 grandchildren and spouse, Avery and Amy Looney of Farragut, Ashton Bradley of Niota, Robert Scruggs of Athens, and Tahiem Scruggs of Athens.
2 great-grandchildren, Ava Looney and Alexander Looney;
Her godson, Guy and Tiffany Looney of Springboro, OH;
Aunt, Virginia Wynn of Knoxville;
Great Niece and Nephew Shonna and Jeff Wilkins and Tyler and Gidget Bradley
Devoted niece and nephew and spouses, Paula and Aaron Elmore, and Charles and Edith Bradley;
Brother-in-law, Willie White;
Devoted Friends and Family, Lorine Robinson, Gail Ramsey both of Niota, Nina Melton of Riceville.
A host of other great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and other extended family members.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Sunday, October 24, 2021 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Roxanne Sherles and Rev. R.T. Smith officiating.
Interment will follow Lanetown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon-1:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
