Douglas (Doug) Lee Murray

DOUG MURRAY,  age 68 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Friday, March 1, 2019, in Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn. He was a native of McMinn County, Tenn., raised in Virginia Beach, Va. , resident of McMinn County, Tenn. most of his life, a son of the late Ira Hayden  Murray  and Alice Lee Ghorley Murray  McGaha.  He was retired from Sarah Lee after many years of service and was of the Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by

• Son: Jason Douglas Murray,
• Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Clyde and Jessie Hooper
• Sisters: Rebecca Mosier,  and Sonya Mobley,
• Brothers: Michael Murray, and Gary Murray

Survivors:

• Wife of 50 years: Kathy Hooper Murray of Athens, Tenn.,
• Daughter and Son-in-law: Lisa and Doug Rodgers of Athens, Tenn.,
• Six Grandchildren: Katie (Travis) Swafford, Raya Murray, Lindy Wade, Samuel Wade,  Parents of Raya, Lindy,and Samuel: David and Ally Wade,  Carter Murray , and Indiana Jones, Parents of Carter and Indiana: J. P. and Eli Jones, 
• Two Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Susie and Gene Tallent of Tampa, Fla., Kathy and Doug Moser of Athens, Tenn.,
• Brother: Brian Hafley of Athens, Tenn.,
• Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 7, 2019 in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Rodgers, Travis Swafford, David Wade, J. P. Jones, Joshua Davis.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 Thursday in the funeral home.
