Douglas Howard Stamper, age 86 of Athens, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022. Douglas was the son of the late Howard Samuel and Clara Marie Stamper of Ten Mile. He was a graduate of Midway High School.
Douglas was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens, TN, for over 29 years and retired from Pet Dairy Inc. after 30 years of service. He was a founding member, along with several of his siblings, of Farmhouse Fraternity at the University of Tennessee in the late 1950’s. He continued to embrace his agricultural roots throughout his life and was a gentleman farmer into his 80s. During his life he passed on his passion for education and his love for Christ through leadership in various service organizations and churches.
He is survived by Polly, his wife of 61 years, whom he met at church during the time he was completing his Master of Science degree at the University of Tennessee. He is also survived by his large and loving family: his son Douglas (Tabetha) and his daughter Carryl (Jeff); siblings Kelvin (Vivien), Lucille (Referd), Norma Jean, Marilyn, Velma, Wanda Sue (Freeman), Brenda (JC), Naomi (Kenneth), and Phyllis (Morgan); sisters-in-law Janice and Brenda; and many cousins, nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jim and his brothers-in-law WD, Junior, Eddie, and Roy.
