Edward Eugene Teague, 95, a McMinn County, Tennessee native, entered into the eternal presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the late evening of January 25th, 2025. Known as "Ed" by his Georgia family and friends, and "Gene' by his Tennessee family and friends, he will be missed by all. Mr. Teague leaves behind his children, Phyllis Teague Harris and Diane Teague Workman of Palmyra, Virginia; son, Lewis Teague and wife Dorothy of Calhoun, TN and step daughter, Linda Payne Cleary and husband Bob of Buford, Georgia. Mr. Teague also is survived by siblings, sister, Odene Teague Keasler and husband Chan of Marietta, Ga. brother John Wesley Teague of Athens TN. and brother Norman Harold Teague and wife Dorothy Womac Teague (Jane) of Winderm Ga. Mr. Teague was the son of the late John Millard Teague and Dorothy Graves Teague of McMinn County. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Louise Teague Freeman; brother, Marvin Teague and twin siblings. Ed or Gene was also preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lucille Payne Teague (Kitty) who passed on January 8, 2025, just 17 days apart. Also preceded by grandchildren, Lathon Quantar Ware, Nichole June Workman, and step son Thomas Payne.
Surviving grandchildren are Jordan Cody Manning and wife Grace, Joel Whitt and wife Melissa, John Cleary and wife Abbey, James Cleary and wife Sara, Jennifer Cleary and ten great-grandchildren. Mr Teague was a lifelong welder and fabricator, beginning his trade in a blacksmith shop in Athens, TN. He was retired from Scientific Atlanta after 24 year of service, but continued to work until age 76 in the trade he loved. He enjoyed working, family, the Atlanta Braves, and to some degree hunting, but most likely the camaraderie of being in the hunting camp. Mr. Teague served in the United States Army, rank of Corporal, with 2 deployments in North Korea. He was awarded 5 battle stars and was honorable discharged on 5/13/52
Funeral services will be 1 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Lewis Teague officiating. The graveside will be at Conasauga Cemetery immediately following the service with Rev. Rodney Bice officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry Keasler, Ray Teague, Wayne Teague, James Teague, Shawn Freeman and James Cleary. Honorary pallbearers will be Randale Keasler, Clenton Keasler, Mike Teague, Mitch Teague and John Cleary. Lead pallbearer will be Joel Whitt. The family will receive friends from 12-1pm Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the funeral home before the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ed's name to Valley Christian Academy c/o 482 Co Rd 725, Riceville, TN 37370 and please designate it for the school.
