SERVICES UPDATED- Ellen "Dr. Thoni" Underdown

MARY ELLEN THONI-UNDERDOWN,  age 63 of Athens, Tenn., passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at her residence. She was a native of Nashville, Tenn.  resident of McMinn County since 1989 and preceded in death by her father: Albert Joseph Thoni and Brother: Eric Thoni. She was a 1978 Graduate of Father Ryan High School and graduated from University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. In 1989 she opened Union Hill Veterinary Hospital where she practice small and large animal medicine until 2022. She was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Athens since 1988. 
Survivors: Husband of 38 years: Jack Underdown, Jr. of Athens, Tenn., Two Daughters: Jane (David) Hewson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Anna (Logan) Vandergriff of Chattanooga, Tenn.., Two Grandchildren: Grey Hewson and Lowen Vandergriff, Sister: Cecelia Matthewson; Two Brothers: Kevin Thoni and David Thoni several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 10:00AM Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church 1291 E Madison Ave, Athens, TN with Father Michael Cummins presiding.  A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall of St. Mary Catholic Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Canine Companions for Independence at Canine.org. Arrangements are by Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home, Athens, Tenn.
