Freddie Dennis "Dip" Grubb

Dennis Fred "Dip" Grubb age 89 of Athens passed away Friday, January 10. 2025 at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville.

A native and life-long resident of McMinn County he was a son of the late Lillie and Hubert Grubb and was preceded in death by 4 brothers Frank Grubb, Clyde Grubb, James Grubb and Johnny Grubb.

He was a 1953 graduate of McMinn County High School and served in the National Guard for 12 years. 

He was a member of East Athens Baptist Church for over 70 years where he served as a Deacon and was the youth director for 25 years. He was retired from Mayfield Dairy after 43 years of service and he also was a basketball official for high school and college level for more than 10 years.

Survivors:

Wife of over 70 years, JoAnn Toomey Grubb;

2 sons, Joe Dennis Grubb and James Wesley Grubb both of Athens;

Grandchildren, Dannon Kyle Grubb, Bradley Morgan Grubb, Jocelyn Whitley Grubb and Kelsey Rachel Grubb;

1 great-granddaughter, Morgan Lee Grubb;

3 brothers, Jack Grubb, Wayne Grubb and Kenneth Grubb;

Several nieces and nephews;

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Wednesday at East Athens Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Roberson and Richard Holden officiating. Graveside services will be 12:00 Noon Thursday at Idlewild Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jamie McConkey, Danny Pilkey, Don King, Mark Stiles, Hoby Toomey, and Rob Grubb.  Honorary pallbearers Dannon Grubb, Bradley Grubb, Ritchie Grubb, Tom Grubb, Gary Grubb, Keith Grubb, Ron Miller and his Sunday School Class at East Athens Baptist Church.
