The world has a little less laughter since George D Gilley “Donny”, has left this world.
A true hippy at heart George loved to make music and play the guitar with friends and his grandson, Nathan.
George was a kind, caring jokester who was always happy. He was drafted into Vietnam and served his country in the Army as a carpenter. After he left the Army he began his career in nuclear engineering. He worked for and retired from TVA and Bechtel as a mechanical engineer.
George loved sports but he especially loved the Braves and Auburn football, even though the rest of the family are Alabama fans.
George was proceeded in death by his father David Gilley, his mother Sarah Buck Gilley, and his forever love Patricia Emery Gilley.
George is Survived by his sister Martha Gilley (William/Lexi) and brother Ricky and Nancy Gilley (6 Nieces, 7 Nephews, 6 great nieces and 7 great nephews), daughters Sandi Lawson (Andy/Laura, Max/Savannah/Cash, Emma) and Amanda and Wesley Mull (Nathan, Arlyn, Aiden, Austin, Phoebe, Silas, Spencer), and best friends Mike and Lynn Blount and Jerry and Helen Millsaps.

The last part of George’s life was spent with the effects of End Stage Renal Disease from Agent Orange. The Kidney Foundation of Chattanooga provides assistance to those affected by kidney disease. 100% of the funds donated stay in Chattanooga.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday, October 1, 2023 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Bernard officiaitng. The interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm Sunday before the service at the funeral home.
