Jackie "Jack" Holmes

Jackie (Jack) Holmes, age 85 of Athens, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 12, 2024 at Parkwest Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Bob and Vesta Bryan Holmes. He loved to hunt and fish, as well as watch the Atlanta Braves and UT sports. He enjoyed going to local ball games with his grandson, great grandchildren and loved being with all of his family. He had a long career as a truck driver and was nick named "Smiley" because of his happy disposition. He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Holmes.

Survivors include, wife of 58 years, Dianne Holmes of Athens; three daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline Holmes of Athens, JoAnne Turner of Cleveland, Heather and Donnie Martin of Athens; grandchildren and spouses, Cody and Christie Hiefnar, Jordyn Turner, Jessa Turner, Kaylyn Hiefnar, McKenzie and Haven Snyder; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby Dan "Sherlock" and Nancy L. Holmes and Roy and Nancy K. Holmes both of McMinn County. 

Funeral services will be 7 pm Monday, July 15, 2024 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral with the Pastor Jeffery Haney officiating. The graveside will be 11 am Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ken Heater, David Spradling, Jake Holmes, Craig Holmes, Chris Holmes and David Sheely. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Boyd, Ray Yarber, Jr., Daryl Moses and Donnie Martin. The visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday before the service at the funeral home.
