John Robert Ivens, age 77 of Athens passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 at his residence.
A native and resident of Athens he was a son of the late, Vance Leon and Virginia Sue Ditmore Ivens and was preceded in death by his first wife Debbie Russell Ivens and his second wife Mary Jean White Ivens, brother Gerald Ivens; Daughter-in-law, Tina Ivens;
He was a veteran of the US Navy, and was a former employee of Delta Airlines in the baggage department for 14 years. He was later employed in the maintenance department with the McMinn County School System. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, and spending time on his farm with his goats and horses.
Survivors:
2 sons, Rodney Ivens of Tellico Plains and Robert Ivens of Madisonville;
1 brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Janice Ivens of Maryville;
1 step-daughter and spouse, Debbie and Kevin Brink
Mother-in-law, Tooter White
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tracy (Bedelia) Russell, Penny (Kirk) Martin, Sharon Gardner, Karen (Tim) Sliger, Annie Lee (Greg) Grissom;
Special helper and friend, Hailey Jack.
A host of grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 6:00 PM Saturday, June 29, 2024 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Daniel Howell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to McMinn Regional Humane Society c/o 320 S. Jackson St., Suite A, Athens, TN 37303 or The Chilhowee Rod and Gun Club, c/o PO Box 345, Athens, TN 37371-0345.
