John Edward Jones, Sr

JOHN EDWARD "Papa John"  JONES, SR., age 80 and 25 year resident Riceville, Tenn. went to be with his King, his Lord, and his Great Creator on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020.  He was born in Charleston, West Virginia, to Charles "Mike" and Helen Jones.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Laxton Jones; three children and their spouses, Robin and Ralph Fisher, John "Jake" and Alisa Jones, and Susan and Mike Coon; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He served as Chaplain of the Thomas A. Hamilton Lodge #317 of Riceville, TN.  He was affectionately known as "Papa John" and was a friend and mentor to many.  His smile, laugh, humor, warm personality, and love of people and life will not be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2 PM on Saturday in the Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home Chapel, Athens, TN, with John Jones, Jr., officiating.  Visitation will be from 1-2 prior to service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Riceville Volunteer Fire Dept.
