Larry Wayne Gates

Larry Wayne Gates, age 74, of Niota went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at his residence. A native and long time resident of McMinn County, formerly of Ten Mile, he was the son of the late Tom Ben and Alma Geneva Hearon Gates. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to fish with his friends, family and wife. He quail hunted and always shot more birds than his hunting buddies. He was a journeyman welder and a talented song writer and musician. He was loved and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Benny Ralph Gates and Donald Ray Gates.

Survivors include; Loving devoted wife of 56 years Barbara Ellen Glover Gates of Niota; son, Michael Wayne Gates of Athens; daughter, Valerie Ann "Sissy" Gates Nolan (Chris) of Englewood; grandchildren, Logan Gates (Lauren), Tryston Nolan, Zoie Nolan Ramsey, Carter Nolan.

Funeral services will be 4 pm Saturday, July 6, 2024 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Plaster officiating. The interment will be at Niota Cemetery immediately following the service. Pallbearers will be Logan Gates, Roukue Jones, Carter Nolan, Michael Gates, Chris Nolan and Riley Gates.  The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm Saturday at the funeral home before the service.
