LARRY O'NEIL (SOAPY) CHANDLER age 84 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, Tenn., a son of the late Thomas H. and Cecile Davis Chandler and preceded in death by Son: Larry "Chip" Chandler, Three Sisters: Jean (Jim) Patrick, Carolyn Collins and Janice (Chester)Carruthers and Father and Mother in law, Glenn & Hazel Foster Webb.
He retired from CSX Railroad as an engineer and a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.
Survivors: Wife of 62 years: Margaret Webb Chandler of Athens, Tenn., Daughter-in-law Holly Hampton Chandler, Grandson, Jack Hampton Chandler, Two Sisters-in-law: Betty (Mike) Floyd and Francis Lynch, Brother-in-law Bill Collins, several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday in Niota Cemetery with Rev. John Cain officiating. Active pallbearers Chan Patrick, Jeff McCay, Kevin Hammonds, Monty Lynch, and Evan Collins. Honorary pallbearer will be Randall Kyker. There will be no formal visitation.
