Lewis (Sonny) Clifton Carroll

LEWIS CLIFTON (SONNY) CARROLL, age 88 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, Tenn. , a son of the late Walter Lewis and Beatrice Wattenbarger Carroll.  He was retired from Niota Textile, a former employee of Athens Hosiery Mill.  He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in World War II.

Preceded in death by: 

• First Wife: Nellia Lorine Richardson Carroll,
• Three Sisters: Eula Keaton, Toni Richeson, and Velda Hyde. 

Survivors include:

• Wife: Norma Stanton Dodson Carroll of Athens, Tenn.,
• Stepson and wife: David and April  Dodson of Athens, Tenn.,
• Daughter Teresa Benson of Denver, Col.
• Five Grandchildren, 
• Sister: Catherine Lunsford of Athens, Tenn., 
• Brother: Vernon Carroll of Athens, Tenn.,
• Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Freedom Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Hogan, Rev. John Mantooth, and Rev. Ronnie Shelton officiating.

Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 5, 2018 in McMinn Memory Gardens with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be David Dodson, J. P. Price, Tony Stanton,  Dale Lunsford, Carl Richesin and.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 Thursday at the church.
