Lynn McPherson Metzger, age 85 of Athens passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Bradley Medical Center in Cleveland. A native of Crossville, Tennessee and a resident of McMinn County since 1991, he was the son of the late George Oren and Amanda Lois McPherson Metzger. Lynn worked for Wal Mart for 20 years and was a member of City Park Church of God of Prophecy. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Army, and was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Faye Metzger (July 12, 2017); daughter, Catherine Lovingood; sister, Sadie Leer.
Survivors include, son-in-law, J.R. Lovingood of Athens; brothers and sister-in-law, Donald and Jenine Metzger and Larry Metzger both from Big Fork, Montana; sister and brother-in-law, Winona and Jim Miles; grandson, Stephen Anthony Moore of Athens; great-grandson, Stephen Austin Moore.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Brown. The interment will follow at Sullins Cemetery immediately after the funeral. The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm Tuesday before the service at the funeral home.
