Mary Virginia Thomas

Virginia Waddill Thomas, age 98, of Athens, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living of Athens. A native of Hanover County, Virginia, she was born December 14, 1920 and  was the daughter of the late Myrtha Calvin Apperson and William Freeman Waddill, Sr.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years William Grant Thomas and her brother William Freeman Waddill, Jr.

 She was a member of the  Episcopal Church of the Creator in Mechanicsville, Va. and very active in their organizations.  She was an employee of Miller & Rhoda's Department Store, Richmond, VA for over 20 years and was a volunteer at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center for many years after her retirement.

Survivors include:

• One daughter and son-in-law; Carolyn Thomas Foree (Dr. Bill) of Athens.
• Four grandchildren, Rev. Cheryl  Foree Gans (Rev. Andy Gans) of Houston Texas, William Edwin Foree (Amanda) of Birmingham, Alabama, Carey Thomas Foree of Athens, TN, and Christy Foree Ricketts (Shelby) of Dallas, Texas.
• Six great-grandchildren, Catey Gans, Ashley Gans, Grant Foree, Abbie Foree, Caroline Ricketts, and b.

A special thanks from the family to the staff at Morning Pointe Assisted Living of Athens for their amazing support, Dr. Vickie Turnbough and Caris Hospice of Athens.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

The family will have a service at Immanuel Episcopal Church, Old Church, Virginia at a later date.
