Alfred Mitchell Purcell, 69, of Englewood passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville. Born in Washington, DC, former resident of Prince Frederick, Maryland and current resident of Englewood, he was a son of the late Russell and Juliet Purcell.
Mitchell was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam era. He retired in 2014 after 27 years of service as a supervisor for the Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority.
Mitchell loved the Lord Jesus with his whole heart. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandsons. Mitchell was kind and generous; always quick to lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved caring for his yard, keeping a garden and driving his John Deere tractor or gator. He always had ongoing projects, whether it be house projects or using his lathe or mill to create things.
He was a devoted husband to Debra Lee Purcell for 45 years. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn A. Purcell of Nashville, son, Robert M. Purcell and daughter-in-law, Angela Purcell and three wonderful grandchildren, Wyatt, Easton, and Isaiah Purcell of Niota, TN; and brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Cecilia Purcell of Darnestown, MD.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, with Pastor Stanley Hammonds officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm, prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, c/o Mitchell Purcell.
