Nellie Mae Kyker Sliger, age 98, of Athens passed away Monday, February 17, 2025 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was the daughter of late W.C. "Bill" Hutsell, Sr. and Willie Mae Snyder Hutsell. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.B. Kyker on March 2, 1989, with whom she helped operate their Dairy Farm, her late husband; Howard Sliger on September 26, 2000; and grandson, Jim Rose; brothers, W.C. Hutsell, Bob Hutsell and Max Hutsell; sister, Mary Ruth Hutsell. An active member of Sewee Church of God, she was a graduate of McMinn County High School and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. She was a former employee of T.V.A. and worked 40 years for McMinn County Motor Company and Dooley Tractor Company. She was a charter member and first president of the Luncheon Pilot Club. She was a volunteer at the McMinn Senior Citizen Center, the RSVP Program, The McMinn County Heritage Museum and a life-time member of the Friends of the Library. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Tomi Kyker of Niota; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Dr. Carroll Rose of Tazewell, TN; special family member, Wayne McKeehan; brother, Charles D. (Buddy) Hutsell of Nashville,TN; and sister, Carolyn Pemberton of Nashville, TN.; grandchildren, Deidra Rose Rudder, Jacob and Natasha Kyker, and Miranda Kyker; great-grandchildren, Henry Rudder, Harrison Rudder. and Kaleb Kyker. several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday, February 20, 2025, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home before the funeral service at 7 pm. Pastor Linda Parton will be officiating. The graveside will be 11 am, Friday. Feb 21, 2025, at McMinn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to; The Pilot Club of Athens, The Friends of the Library and McMinn County Living Heritage Museum.
