Noble Sutherland Dooly Clark, a resident of Morning Pointe of Athens, Tennessee, died peacefully on Saturday, May 27 2023. The widow of George Amos Clark, Jr, she was long associated with Hiwassee Builders Supply, the company they founded in 1957.
Noble earned a B.S. in home economics at the University of Tennessee and did a year of postgraduate work at the Merrill Palmer Institute in Detroit Michigan. She was the director of the University of Georgia Nursery School and served as professor of Child Development. After having children of her own, she became a homemaker and focused on family, church and community. She drove Meals on Wheels for many years, led Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and her involvement ranged from Cursillo to the National Organization for Women. Above all, she loved to encourage children with books and creative play. At 98, Noble was the oldest living member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she was once a leader of the Episcopal Church Women, taught Sunday school, and served on the Vestry.
