Rev. Herschel Creasman, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, October 29, 2018, and now joins his loving wife, Joanne (Turner) from Wetumpka, Alabama. He passed away peacefully in Cape Coral, Florida after fighting Alzheimer's disease for several years.
He will be missed greatly by his children, Robin (Elizabeth), Leigh Anne Page (Scott), and Lori Anne Creasman; grandchildren, Riley Page, Victoria Page, Caroline Creasman, and Emma Creasman; brother, Rev. Carl Creasman (Roberta) and sister Ozelle Ricks; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Herschel was born on November 16, 1932, in Riceville, Tennessee, to the late Mary Ollie Womac Creasman and the late Rev. Jesse Washington Creasman. He grew up in Athens, Tennessee with 11 brothers and sisters in a very loving and close Christian family with a wide-reaching extended family of nieces, nephews, their children, and grandchildren.
Herschel was preceded in death by his brothers, Malcolm, Dedrick, Capt. Jess Curtis, Cecil, and Rev. Oran; and sisters, Louise Land, Lucille Strasser, Mary Opal Richardson, and Jina Wood.
Herschel was known for his leadership in Sunday School and Church growth throughout the Southern Baptist Convention. He served many churches throughout the southeast including Pompano Beach, FL, Easley, SC, Valdosta, GA, Wauchula, FL, Coral Springs, FL, as well as, Louisville, Kentucky, Del City, Oklahoma, and Dallas, Texas, as either Minister of Music, Minister of Education, Associate Pastor, and Pastor. He had the honor to serve under the leadership of 3 past Presidents of the Southern Baptist Convention - Dr. Wayne Dehoney, Dr. W.A. Criswell, and Dr. James T. Draper; and he served as adjunct professor at Southern Seminary.
Herschel loved his family, children, son-in-love, daughter-in-love, and adored grandchildren. He was a truly committed follower of Christ offering to serve, encourage, and minister to everyone he met. He took to heart the two greatest commandments, loving God and his neighbor and lived to serve in the name of Christ. Whether a stranger or a friend, he was ready to help in times of need or just be there for a listening ear with compassion and kindness.
Herschel’s life will be honored Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the Creasman Chapel at Eastanallee Baptist Church in Riceville, TN at 4:00 p.m. Herschel’s brother, Rev. Carl Creasman will be officiating.
A memorial fund is in place to honor Herschel & Joanne Creasman. Donations can be made to the Herschel Creasman Memorial Fund by sending a contribution to 1612 Savonna Parkway, Cape Coral, FL 33904.
