Robert Daniel Gardner

ROBERT DANIEL GARDNER,  age 90 of Riceville, Tenn passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, at his home. He was a native of Belmont, North Carolina , resident most of his life of Riceville, Tenn, and a son of the late Rev. George Alexander and Lillie Leona Sparks Gardner He was a member of Woodward Ave. Church of God, where he played the Bass Guitar for the early church service at 10:00 A.M. , Sunday night Service and Wednesday night service. He played for the Keenagers Group as long as his health would permit. He also played Bass for the Gardner Brothers Quartet. He served four years in the U, S. Navy as a 3rd Class Petty Officer during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Bowater Paper Mill in Calhoun after 40 years of service.

He leaves behind to cherish memory his loving wife of 57 years: Ester Eveline Scroggs Gardner of Riceville, Tenn., Two Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Charles and Beatrice Gardner of Athens, Tenn. Kenneth and Burchalene Gardner of Athens, Tenn., Three sisters and brothers-in-law: Lydia and J. C. Kiser of Cleveland, Tenn., Becky and George Shamblin of Calhoun, Tenn., Mary Ruth and Gary Brock of Knoxville, Tenn., He has many extended family members, friends , Two loving and caregivers: Eric Witt and daughter Destin Witt, Two special friends: Bill and Kathy Ingram, Five special nieces: Sherri Jones, Mary Witt, Lisa Davis, Teresa Derrick and Kathy Gowell.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Jerry Stephens officiating, and anyone has comments or something to comfort the family in time of their loss, they are welcome to do so. Entombment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Friday in the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Dr.'s and their staff who took care of Robert during his illness, Dr. Benjamin Scott Coffey, Dr. Lee Radford, Dr. Johnnie Carter and Hospice of Chattanooga.
