SHELBY JEAN DAVIS, age 83 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Saturday, August 15, 2020, at her residence. She was a native and long time resident of McMinn County, Tenn., a daughter of the late James Roger and Dessie Allen Mathews McNutt and preceded in death by Brothers: Grover McNutt, James McNutt, Kenneth McNutt, Ivan McNutt, William McNutt, Sister: Alice McNutt Owens and Grandson: Joshua Thompson. She was the first Police Academy Graduate to serve on the McMinn County Sheriff Dept. as a Lt. in the Special Services Dept. and retired from the State of Tennessee as Superintendent in the Driver's License Examiner Dept. She was a member of the First Church of God of Athens. She was active in the Republican Party and served as the Reagan-Bush Presidental Campign manager for McMinn County, Tenn.
Survivors: Husband: Bill Davis of Athens, Tn. Two Sons and daughter-in-law: James (Chris) and Sharon Lackey of Clermont, Fla. Michael Eugene Davis of Athens, Tenn., Two Daughters and son-in-law: Melanie Lackey and Richardson Peterson of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Paula Lackey of Athens, Tenn., Seven Grandchildren: Stephanie Lackey, Paige Lackey, Jake Lackey, Daniel Peterson, Alex Peterson, Corey Davis, and Kinzlie Davis, Two Great Grandchildren: Haylee Lackey and Blair Davis, several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M Monday in Cedar Grove Cemetery with Rev. Roy Chism officiating. Active pallbearers will be Chris Lackey, Jake Lackey, Rick Peterson, Alex Peterson, Michael Davis, and Corey Davis. Condolences may be sent to www.laycock-hobbs./notices/Shelby-Davis.
