Susana Fiapa'i McKheean

In loving memory of Susana Fiapa’i McKheean, a cherished soul born on the enchanting shores of American Samoa in 1965, and departed from this world on December 3, 2023, in Tennessee. Susana, a devoted wife of 21 years to Rickey Lynn McKheean, leaves behind a legacy of love and selflessness as a dedicated mother to her daughter Brittany Ward and three adored granddaughters: Alexis Starr, Ava Ward, and Addilyn Ward.

Susana's unwavering commitment to her family was the cornerstone of her life. Hailing from American Samoa, she was the daughter of the late Fiapa’i Fanua Mata’u and Sivate Sua Fiapa’i Mata’u, and she is now reunited with her eight siblings in eternity:  Rita “Lika” Peeler, Kalepo Fanua, Fiapa’i Fanua, Faioa “Faye” Fiapa’i, Mikaele Fiapa’i, Fanolua Sinta Fiapa’i Lome, Telesia Fiapa’i Tuiafono, and Mu Fiapa’i.

She is survived by her loving husband, daughter, granddaughters, mother-in-law Earline McKheean, siblings Leata Fanua Quintanilla, Lusia Fiapa’i Bunch, Fautanu Lamasi Fiapai, Pearl Penitito Fiapa’i, Vevesi Lemafa, Sonia Langkilde, Freida Fiapa’i Fiapa’i, Teu Pulou, and nieces, and nephews spanning generations. Susana, a proud alumna of Faga’itua High School, was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a hardworking contributor to the city of Athens.

In the face of her battle with cancer, Susana exemplified resilience living like, "That it will never come again, makes life so sweet." She fought valiantly, radiating strength and heroism until her last breath. The echoes of her infectious laugh, generous spirit, tenacious personality, and boundless dedication will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Susana Fiapa’i McKheean will live on in the cherished memories of her loved ones, ensuring that her name is spoken with love, admiration, and enduring gratitude. May she rest in eternal peace.

The family will receive friends 9:00 AM- 11:30 AM Saturday, December 16, 2023 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the memorial service at 11:30 AM.  A graveside service will immediately follow at McMinn Memory Gardens.
